Purpose

Software-Directory aims to maintain a useful structured database of software companies, vendors, products and related business information. The platform may combine owner-supplied data with authorised feeds, public factual information, open data, official websites and manual research.

Data standards

  • Keep source/provenance metadata for imported records and material factual fields.
  • Prefer factual, minimal and verifiable business data; do not copy third-party marketing text or images at scale without appropriate rights.
  • Maintain freshness timestamps and expiry/review rules.
  • Deduplicate entities before publication and preserve canonical entity IDs.
  • Do not publish personal mobile numbers, personal emails or other unnecessary personal data merely because they are publicly visible.
  • Do not fabricate ratings, reviews, prices, employee counts, verification labels or “best” claims.
  • When the owner supplies content, record that source and the owner’s rights/licence to provide it.

Claimed listings and source priority

A claimed listing may be edited by an authorised business representative subject to moderation. Automated imports do not silently overwrite owner-provided or administrator-corrected fields with lower-confidence source data. Source precedence: administrator-reviewed correction > verified owner input > trusted authorised feed > automated/public enrichment.

Verification labels

A “Verified” label describes a defined process. For example, verification may confirm control of an official domain/email, business documentation or another ownership/identity check. Verification does not imply broader quality, licensing, insurance or performance checks unless those checks were actually performed and documented.

Corrections, objections and removal

Businesses and individuals may request correction or removal through info@software-directory.com or the dedicated correction/removal form. Requests involving personal data are also handled under the Privacy Policy and the Data Correction, Removal & Privacy Rights Procedure. Valid removal or objection requests are reflected in suppression controls so an automated import does not immediately recreate the removed personal data.
